"These youngsters have been bought up in care and now have to fend for themselves in bedsits or in sheltered accommodation. Through no fault of their own, these amazing 16 and 17 years olds find themselves deemed by the system, able to care for themselves! A hugely daunting prospect for anyone let alone a 16 or 17 year old with very little in the way of family or friend support. The impact of this hardship on their mental health is reflected in their struggles with isolation and loneliness." Derbyshire Masons run a Xmas meal for the group even year, providing a card, gift, a meal and company.
Derbyshire Blood Bikes is part of a national network of blood bike groups covering most of the UK and Ireland. Most groups are part of the Nationwide Association of Blood Bikes, and Derbyshire is proud to be a part of that Association. All groups are independent charity organisations, raising their own funds and agreeing to working arrangements with local NHS Trusts. In that respect, all blood bike groups are distinct in size and scale of operations. During the Pandemic, this group ran samples and tests across the Province. Several of their group are also Masons.
derbyshirebloodbikes.org As the East Midlands’ only hospice for children and young people, they provide vital care and support to families impacted by life-limiting conditions. They provide end of life care, symptom management, short breaks and respite care. They are also there to support parents and siblings through their bereavements. WM Chris Hill has been supporting the charity for many years.
